The Pop Up Pantry
The Pop Up Pantry is a mobile food and household goods store, that is about drawing communities together around affordable food while empowering individuals to make better food choices across the city. This is more than just a pop up food shop, this is a weekly community hub, designed to draw people together to provide the chance for conversation and support and offered to reflect our Christian belief (or ‘Jesus’ teachings’) of the commitment to help those in need.
The first pantry was launched in Wallsend in May 2022, and was an instant success and since then each week membership has increased, with this site now serving up to 30 households on a weekly basis. The second site at Benwell opened up in June and is also gaining new members each week.
We look forward to the next few weeks and months as we see more sites opening up and serving communities across the region.
How you can help…
The Pop Up pantry is supplied through donations and connection with local food chains. There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes, from stock taking, organising and setting up to welcoming and serving members tea and coffee on Pantry days! Theres so much you could do. If you would like to volunteer to serve as part of our Pantry team please get in touch here.
If you would like to contribute to the Pantry but are unable to volunteer on a weekday please consider donating food and household goods that will go to supplying both the Pop Up and Byker Pantry
You can find donation baskets at either of our sites. Download a shopping list and bring a few items as you come along to Life Vineyard.
